ME

There was a time not long ago,

when I would always hide

my feelings and emotions,

I kept them all inside

and I prented more than not,

at everything I'd do.

Then I would compliment myself

because nobody knew.

I'd listen to their points of view,

some were not to cool,

As I judged them,

I thought that they would judge me as a fool!

It semed that they'd not notice

when they made a huge mistake

how come i thought they'd notice me

and every move I'd make?

I really envied all their fun

if I could be like them

to love myself, I wondered if I dare.

But then to come and think of it, I really shouldn't care.

If someone disaproves of me,

that's their prerogative,

but now I'm going to let me out-

I have the right to live!

Literature as a Mirror

Posted by Shawn Ewing on September 1, 2014 at 10:45 PM Comments comments (2)

Ever since my days as an undergrad English major, I couldn't help but notice how literature can act as a very strange mirror. Poetry and narrative fiction both have this effect, but with differences.

I find writing relaxing and when I write poetry, I find myself in deep introspection, even if I read what I just wrote and find myself perplexed afterward. But, I suppose that's its own little reward: to see something, a connection, you don't quite understand. Emily Dickinson has a firm influence on my poetry: I don't title it.

I have come to the conclusion that poetry and creative writing in general is my form of meditation and release.

Bring me the Stars

and I shall remain

unsatisfied;

bring me the Stones

and I shall pave a Path.

(By Shawn Ewing)

Like I said before, sometimes poetry is obscure to even the writer. The following is heavy with images, as all poetry is.

Before me the Spiral:

it gleams and shines--

though it is false.

Lead wings fly

on the Wind called Sorrow

(By Shawn Ewing).

The above to are two recent poems I wrote. I actually wrote them yesterday (8/31/14). :)

Until The Day... A Milestone Love Song

Until The Day

(Abb’s first love song, written at age 16)

Verse 1

I remember all of the times we’ve vowed, to stay together

I just want to say it once again

For everything we’ve hoped for, to stay as ONE forever,

Even through the storms and the rain…

Chorus

Until the day, til death us due part

Your will always be my number 1 and that will never leave my heart

Now I, wouldn’t lie, you’ve made me a believer

Cause I believe with all my heart, it’s you I’ll love until the day

Verse 1

Every time I greet you, there’s a smile on my face

It reflects the joy you make me feel

I cherish every moment of your love, beauty and grace

You’ve got that magical appeal

Chorus

Until the day, til death us due part

Your will always be my number 1 and that will never leave my heart

Now I, wouldn’t lie, you’ve made me a believer

Cause I believe with all my heart, it’s you I’ll love until the day

Bridge

I live everyday committed to do

And be in every way and be forever true

There is nothing greater than the love I have for you

Now just take my hand I will see you through

Chorus

Until the day, til death us due part

Your will always be my number 1 and that will never leave my heart

Now I, wouldn’t lie, you’ve made me a believer

Cause I believe with all my heart, it’s you I’ll love until the day

The Two

(Written by my child Katie W. at age 11. )

Come with me, my mortal love, on a dragons wing,

To be home, and in your presence to you I’ll sing.

Even when our days are gone and done,

Our soul shall forever be bound together, as one,

And yet the day we die has a long way to come.

It does not matter to me what you are,

Or if the others say we’ve gone too far

For this is what is meant to be

My mortal love, you and me.

(There is a picture with this but it is too faint to scan. It shows a dragon beside a Young lady he is touching her shoulder and she is reaching up with her hand on the side of the dragon's neck. The dragon is sitting behind her in what is my impression as a supportive an caring stance)

I Am Not Broken, I Am Free

I Am Not Broken, I Am Free

(Taken from the Movie Pariah by Dee Rees)

Heartbreak opens onto the sunrise
For even breaking is opening
And I am broken
I’m open
Broken to the new light without pushing in
Open to the possibilities within, pushing out
See the love shine in through my cracks?
See the light shine out through me?
I am broken
I am open
I am broken open
See the love light shining through me
Shining through my cracks
Through the gaps
My spirit takes journey
My spirit takes flight
Could not have risen otherwise
And I am not running
I’m choosing
Running is not a choice from the breaking
Breaking is freeing
Broken is freedom
I am not broken
I’m free.

The Old Me

If the new me met the old me

I wouldn't want to change me

never preventing mistakes made

leaving her untouched

fixing all the troubles means regret

she's a continuous sufferer

internal conflict on the constant

not once having a taste of peace of mind

unsure and worried for the future

and the slightest matter

insecure and frozen

I couldn't tell the old me how to change my life

this recent me has no regrets

despite what I've seen

what i've endured

It's a journey with no handbook

figuring as I travel through the timeline

things aren't as serious as you once made them out to be

to want to change the old me is to say

that my experience was worth nothing

that it isn't worthy of my thanks.

a poem on music (last revision)

Posted by Soulwarrior on May 1, 2013 at 5:15 PM Comments comments (3)

This is a poem i wrote as i was listening to the following atmospheric song by charlie veitch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IDrUG0otDw

Music is silence expressed.

it is the wordless language of the soul.

it is the quickest and most powerful gateway to the heart.

it is the highest expression and conveyor of  truth in physical form.

it is the tears we want but cannot cry

it is pure harmony in form.

Music is the highest messenger of God: it does not speak, yet it is so full of wisdom.

Music is the kiss of God.

Music is the gateway to rememberance of our true magnificence and eternal connection with God.

Music helps you to find yourself again, when you have been lost for so long.

Music has the power to make you reborn in an instant.

Music help you experience that you are love.

Music is the key to the kingdom of heaven within you.

Music is the dispeller of everything that is false in you.

Music is a force that moves you.

Music is a force that awakes you.

Music is a force that shakes you.

Music is a force that drives you.

Music is a force that ignites you.

Music is a force that make you desire again.

Music is a force that make you yearn again.

Music is a force that make you long again.

Music is the spirit of God, moving through you.

Music is a force that makes you forgive and forget.

Music is the only force that transforms you in the glimpse of an eye.

Music is a force that brings you to the eternity of the present moment.

Music is a force that cuts through all layers of falsehood and lies in the glimpse of an eye.

Music is God desperately trying to get your attention.

Music is God crying your hidden tears, because you have forgotten to cry.

Can you come up with more things that music do?

To Thine Own Self Be True

To thine own self be true -

by X-conflict

Live your truth; not someone else's idea of.

Love thyself; not someone else's idea of.

Trust thyself - not someone else's idea of.

Listen ...... listen to you; not someone else's idea of.

Nurture thyself; not someone else's idea of.

Embrace thyself; not someone else's idea of.

Comfort thyself; not someone else's idea of.

Cry..... cry for you; not someone else's idea of.

Dance to thine own rythmn; not someone else's idea of.

Sing thyself a melody; not someone else's idea of.

Laugh at thyself; not someone else's idea of.

Speak...speak from the heart; not someone else's idea of.

Someone else's idea of someone else's idea
